Arsenal face going into the season with a paper thin squad as injuries and suspensions mount, in the squad for the Aston Villa game, Arsenal have as recognised fit first teamers:
Sagna *Came off in the midweek game with an injury*
Koscielny *Suspended against Fenerbache in first leg*
Ramsey *Missed midweek game and some training sessions with injury but should be fit*
Wilshere *Only played 45 minutes in pre-season*
Cazorla *Coming back from Ecuador and suspended for first leg against Fenerbache*
Players injured for longer then the next two weeks include : Sanogo, Vermaelen, Monreal, Arteta,
As you can see these leaves our squad paper thin against Aston Villa with youngsters such as Gnabry, Akpom and Zelalem likely to be sitting on the bench. As such we have 4 fit defenders and one carrying a knock, no defensive midfielders and basically no cover for further injuries.
Fast forward 3 days and our squad gets even smaller with the fact Cazorla and Koscielny are both suspended for the first leg which means that if one of the defenders picks up an injury we will have to put in a youngster such as Issac Hayden who has never played a competitive game for Arsenal.
Loaning out players such as Coquelin and Djourou looks very questionable now as we could definitely do with them to bolster the squad. With players like Ramsey and Sagna carrying a knock and Wilshere and Gibbs injury prone a gruelling schedule that sees Arsenal play 5 games in 2 weeks is going to push us even further.
Any new players brought can not be registered for the Champions League Play-off games and as such were looking at the above squad for both legs.

Update: Error on my part as turns out Kosicelny and Cazorla are not suspended as yellow card suspensions do not carry on to the next season, thanks to mart for correcting me.
